April is National Stress Awareness Month
Stress can be debilitating, and I have experienced first hand how it can cause or aggravate health problems.
However, since stress is a normal part of human existence — nobody is immune to it — it’s important to have the tools we need so that we recognize when it’s happening to us.
If you would like some strategies for coping with the stressors in your life, I've put together a short guide with 5 Steps to Overcome Stress and Gain Energy.
5 Unconventional Ways My Clients Overcome Stress, Anxiety and Find Balance
1. Shrink the Change
Our minds sometimes struggle to process large tasks. When the enormity of a task appears too big, we often opt for inertia (not doing anything). This causes stress.Break the task down into manageable chunks and set realistic timeframes against each one.
2. Find the Feeling
You actually have two minds; the emotional mind and the rational mind. When an obstacle is causing you stress, anxiety or depression, look for your reason 'why' to motivate you.By finding the feeling, you are able to motivate your emotional mind and build momentum.
3.Rest Often, a fresh head and the opportunity to start anew means that you're better equipped to deal with any perceived problems. If you're working late and finding productivity is dropping, get some sleep and try again in the morning.Be religious in your rest.
4. Reflect
In order to optimise your performance and achieve continued progress, you must reflect on your performance.Continue to look back at what went well and what could be done better.Aim to gradually optimise your performance over time and celebrate your wins!A great way of doing this is to journal and regularly schedule time to reflect on specific goals/aims.
5. Resilient State
Getting in a resilient state means changing the way you think through the way you move or altering your environment. Not only are you changing your brain waves and hacking your own biology in doing this, but you become more efficient, more focused and more able to ride the waves of life. Examples of how to reach a resilient state include: meditation, gratitude journalling, exercise, good nutrition, and reinforcing positive self talk.
